Sometimes, in a sad sort of way, life treats us kindly. Early in 2012 Jan arranged for us to fly to Ohio to attend two weddings - one on 18 August and the other on 1 September. As our departure date approached we were informed the 1 September wedding had been called off. Unaware of how meaningful it would turn out to be we decided to check with Hoppy to see if he was going to be in town near the end of August. With his usual enthusiasm he said, “Heyyyy, if you guys are coming, I’ll be here AND I’ll start making a list of all the things we can do while you are here!” Well, we did visit and we did do a lot of things, never expecting these would be the last we would ever enjoy with Hoppy. It was only four days we spent with him that last visit but had it been a thousand we would not miss him any less. Hoppy, we will never forget your enthusiasm, generosity and your many abilities - both physical and cerebral. You were the perfect friend, teaching us, helping us, inspiring us, feeding us and making us laugh. You will be in our hearts forever. We love you, miss you, and we hurt.
