GATHER NO MOSS

Hoppy was a man not prone to sitting still. He was always planning and doing and learning and helping. He was the epitome of ‘gathering no moss’ and anyone who ever traveled with or visited Hoppy knows this to be true: you also would gather no moss. In the days of travel for the lab - say, to south Florida - we might find ourselves with a few hours of down time. Hoppy would immediately be paging through the local tourist magazines and we would soon be heading out, discount coupon in hand, for some adventure such as an air-boat ride through gator infested everglades. In the evening, as dinner ended, he would be offering several proposals as to what to do for the next few hours. He would have brochures (with coupons) to pass around and it did not matter to him what the gang agreed to do as long as we did not just sit around in our hotel rooms. In more recent years, as soon as Hoppy knew he would be having visitors he would spend hours and hours (just ask Polly) compiling a list of things to do. The list would always contain more things to do than could possibly be fit into the visit so he would have us check those things we were most interested in and he would then arrange a schedule to occupy our every hour.
