Bob was born on November 5, 1940 in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Ina and Oscar Hauptmann. He has 4 children : Ina Rose (and her husband -Jeff) of Mountain Lakes, NJ. Amy HauptmannBaker (and her husband - Dan Baker) of North Stonington CT. Anna Hauptmann of Ringwood NJ and his one and only special son Wayne Hauptmann (and his wife - Wendy) of North Stonington CT. Bob had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren (Carter, Kylie, Sam, Brady, Bowen, Gabriel, Addie, Ella, Skylar). His life revolved around his children and grandchildren. Bob found a great partner in Polly Shoemaker of Waterford, CT for the past 4 years. Bob grew up in North Stonington, CT and graduated from Wheeler High School and continued higher education at Northeastern, UCONN, URI and MIT. He worked at the Naval Underwater Systems Center for 38 years as a mechanical engineer. He authored over 70 papers in the field of Towed Array Design and holds 4 Towed Array patents. Bob was one of the happiest, nicest and most generous people any could ever meet. His sense of humor was always foremost and carried him through all life's situations. He loved all his friends, kids and grand kids. He loved to help people, build and construct things, including his post and beam home that he built with his children. He could learn anything, do anything, and was always willing to try anything. His interests included swimming and rope swinging at Beach Pond, theme parties with friends, traveling, gardening and experimenting in cooking. He had a big heart and would help anyone with anything. He passed this sense of family and his helping attitude down to his children. Bob will be greatly missed by so many.
